    The pronunciation and meaning of the name of the month of March are similar in many languages. It is named März in German, Mars in French, Marzo in Spanish, and Maart in Dutch. The common origin of these words is Martius, the Roman God of War. The Latin for March is Martius mensis, meaning “Moon of Mars”. Mars, on the other hand, comes from the change of the word Martius overtime. Martius, on the other hand, is derived from the Archaic Latin word maurs or mavors, meaning “deadly”.

    If you were born before 150 BC, the first month of the year would be March for you. According to the earliest Roman calendars, a year was ten months long. The year started in March and ended in December. However, in many countries in the past, the year started with the month of March. Most of Europe used March as the start of the year. England used March 25 as the start of the New Year until 1752.


    March is the third month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars, the first month to have the length of 31 days. It is preceded by February and succeeded by April.There are three very important dates in March: (1) St. Patrick’s Day; (2) the first day of spring; and (3) Daylight savings.

    March is the month when the cold does not leave us but the sun starts to show its face slightly. Spring is not a pattern, winter is not a pattern… In this month, which is between hot and cold, it snows in some cities and blooms in some cities.

    Bloodstone, which is the birthstone of March, has a distinctive appearance that gave rise to legends of its origin. Folklore states that bloodstone was formed from an animal’s blood, trapped under a large stone and left to dry. Bloodstone is often compared with jade because of its deep green color. In reality, it is a form of chalcedony quartz or sardonyx. Bloodstone has been polished and used in jewelry since at least the third century B.C.
